213.3113(a)(5) - 180 day Limit
in a Service Year:
Employees hired
under Excepted Intermittent
appointments must not exceed 180
work days in a service year,
which is one year from date of
hire. This authority may only
be used at the area office and
field office level. The
position must include duties
performing field assistance. The
SF-52 may be initiated in the
field office but must be signed
by the ASTC-FO for your area.

Time
Limits:
You are
responsible for ensuring that an
Excepted Intermittent employee:
- Does not work
more than 180 days in a service
year.
- If employee
exceeds more than 1,040 hours in
a service year then extension
can only be for one additional
year. (Note: 1,040 hours is
less than 180, 8-hour days)
This is also true even if the
employee works less than 1,040
hours the following service
year.
