2007 Wisconsin State Land Judging CompetitionOn September 18, 2007, 184 high school students from 34 Wisconsin schools and a 4-H club participated in the State Land Judging Competition. Schools participating were: Arcadia, Barron, Belleville, Black Hawk, Brodhead, Cashton, Edgerton, Elkhorn, Fall Creek, Gale, Ettrick, Trempealeau, Hillsboro, Janesville Craig, Juda, LaFarge, Lancaster, Marshall, Milton, Monroe, Monticello, Mt. Horeb, New Lisbon, Orfordville, Parkview, Pecatonica, Portage, Potosi, Reedsville, River Ridge, Shullsburg, Verona, Weston, Whitewater, plus two teams from York 4-H. The contest was held at the Hans and Amy Justeson farm, located four miles
south of Belleville. Each student described soil and landscape features,
rated the land capability class, noted major limitations for land use, and made
recommendations for conservation practices. Students were scored based on
agreement between their evaluations and those of official contest judges. Judges included local Land Conservation and Natural Resources Conservation
Service professionals. Top 5 Senior Teams who will advance to National Competition:
