2007 UW-Platteville Land Judging Competition
On Thursday, May 10, 273 high school students from 18 Wisconsin schools
participated in the 41st Annual UW-Platteville Land Judging Competition. The
UW-Platteville Soil Conservation/Agronomy student chapter and the UW-Platteville
School of Agriculture sponsored the event.
In the contest, students evaluated four sites located on the Richard Wagner Farm
in rural Cuba City. Each student described soil and landscape features, rated
the land capability class, noted major limitations for land use, and made
recommendations for conservation practices. Students were scored based on
agreement between their evaluations and those of official contest judges. Judges
included local Land Conservation and Natural Resources Conservation Service
professionals and professors from UW-Platteville.
Cassville placed first in the contest, followed by River Ridge (2nd place),
Potosi (3rd place), Lancaster (4th place), and Cashton (5th place). High
individual scores came from Matt Martin from River Ridge (1st place), Brian Fure
from Cassville (2nd place), Jarred Stanek from River Ridge (3rd place), Bryce
Leibfried from Potosi (4th place) and Jeff Ploessl from Cassville (5th place).
